Connecting with Schools Across Nova Scotia – A tool for you!
Back to newsConnecting virtually with Google Hangouts is not only a tool for Green School’s Engagement Officers but it is an awesome way for classrooms to connect with each other across Nova Scotia, and beyond!
If you follow us on social media you can see that we are virtually engaging with numerous classrooms using Google Hangouts. We love it because not only are we producing less greenhouse gases by eliminating emissions from driving but also we can visit your awesome students multiple times a year. However, connecting virtually doesn’t have to stop with us.
Maybe you have peers working in other schools now, or you met a teacher at a PD day and you enjoyed their teaching style, or maybe you just want your students to experience other parts of Nova Scotia. Then why not connect virtually!?
Last month Mrs. Barnes and Mrs. Eyres did just that! Working together in the same school they had very similar teaching styles and became close friends, so when Mrs. Barnes moved to Meadowfields Community School they wanted to find a way to keep in touch. Google Hangouts has allowed them to stay connected while their students share their learning across two Tri-Country elementary schools. Last month Mrs. Eyres’ class at Yarmouth Central School read their books to both classrooms. This allowed them to share their passion for literacy while collaboratively teaching their students.
Green Schools is also keen to connect schools across Nova Scotia! So this year we are launching Virtual Engagement Webinars. Your chance to connect with different students, teachers, classrooms, and communities across the province. If you’re interested in giving it a try, contact your Engagement Officer and keep your eyes open from more details soon.
