International Cat Day: Energy-Saving Tips From Our Feline Friends šŸ¾šŸ’”

Back to stories

Happy International Cat Day! At Green Schools NS, we know that our cats are more than just petsā€”theyā€™re family. And what better way to celebrate our beloved felines than by taking inspiration from their natural energy-saving behaviors to protect our planet?

Cats are experts at finding cozy spots to relax in, often in sunny windows or warm nooks. Just like our cats, we can take advantage of natural sunlight to light and warm our homes, reducing our reliance on artificial lighting and heating. Instead of turning up the thermostat, try curling up with a blanket, just like your cat does. By reducing energy consumption, we help decrease our carbon footprint, which in turn protects the habitats of all animals, including our wild cat cousins.

Another tip from our feline friends is to unplug electronics when not in use. Cats are curious creatures, often knocking things over or playing with dangling cords. By unplugging devices, not only do we save energy, but we also create a safer environment for our pets. Plus, those phantom power loadsā€”where devices still consume energy even when turned offā€”can add up, so every bit of energy saved helps.

Check out the adorable photos of our teamā€™s cats, who are already leading by example in conserving energy (even if itā€™s just by napping all day)!
