Celebrate Earth Day with Engagement Officer Avery!
Back to newsApril 22, 2024 is Earth Day and our Cape Breton EO Avery is here to share a few suggestions on how you can show your appreciation for our amazing planet!
Picnic in a Provincial Park
Nova Scotia has dozens of incredible parks all across the province and visiting one is a great way to celebrate Earth Day! Pack a picnic lunch with some reusable containers and water bottles and enjoy the stunning beauty of our province!
Plant a Tree
Planting a tree with your family or friends is another awesome way to show your love for our planet! Trees give us oxygen for us to breathe and take in harmful gases – in one year, a mature tree will absorb more than 48 pounds of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere!
Clean Up Your Neighbourhood
Make some positive changes in your area by cleaning up! Grab some safety gear like gloves, protective glasses, and good shoes, some friends, and organize a garbage pick-up in your neighbourhood! Small changes add up!
Find Ways to Conserve Water
Being aware of how much water we use can make a big difference! Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth saves 18 glasses of water! Installing a water-saving showerhead and checking your tub and sinks for leaks can greatly reduce how much water we waste.
Visit a Farmer’s Market
Food grown locally doesn’t have to travel very far to get to your dining room table, which cuts down on transportation emissions and air pollution! Plus, it supports local business owners who make a living growing and raising food.
Switch to Energy-Efficient Light Bulbs
Another small change that reduces the amount of resources we use is making the switch to LED lights over incandescent ones! LED lights use considerably less energy when compared to incandescent bulbs, reducing how much electricity you use and pay for! A win-win situation for everyone!
