Entry Level, Term position: Green Schools Nova Scotia Engagement Officer
Salary: $18/hr up to 35 hours per week for 36 weeks

Thinkwell Shift (“Shift”) is looking for an Engagement Officer for the Green Schools Nova Scotia (“GSNS”) program located in the Truro-New Glasgow-Antigonish area who enjoys working with youth and forging relationships. The successful candidate will report to the Program Coordinator and work well both independently and as part of a team to empower the youth of Nova Scotia.

Requirements for this position:
A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle
A clean criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check
Strong spoken, written, and listening communication skills in English
Travel to schools within your designated focus area
Ability to lift and carry 30lbs and stand for long periods

This is a term position ending in June with a possible opportunity to extend into the next school year for the right candidate.

About Green Schools Nova Scotia
Green Schools is a program of Efficiency Nova Scotia which is managed by Thinkwell Shift. This program meets with students across Nova Scotia in grades primary through 12 to develop their understanding of energy efficiency and the impact of energy use on our natural environment. Through fun, hands-on presentations, students learn about climate change, energy-efficient products, and programs available through Efficiency NS and are introduced to the growing career opportunities in the green sector here in Nova Scotia.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES
Deliver the GSNS pre-made presentations and activities about energy, energy efficiency, and green sector opportunities for the 2023-2024 school year to schools in Truro-New Glasgow-Antigonish area . This may also include travel outside of this area to conduct in-person engagements in classrooms and community events for various ages including adults.
Deliver the GSNS program virtually through Google Meet to classrooms and community groups province-wide.
Actively engage with and communicate program offerings, goals, and resources to administrators, teachers, and community members.
Follow company standards for personal safety. Conduct your day in a safe manner including but not limited to using safe driving practices when on the road, properly lifting heavy objects, and following safe practices while in schools to protect yourself and others from harm.
Participate in daily check-ins, meetings, and training as required.
Share weekly highlights to be used in program marketing, including photographs, stories, and student quotes
Seize all relevant opportunities to build, support, and create excitement for the program.
Work with management to plan travel and expenses to meet budgeted program delivery. Maintain accurate work time and expense records and submit receipts in a timely manner.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records in the Green Schools NS database.
Proper handling, accountability, and maintenance of company equipment including and not limited to computers, projectors, glass items, etc.
Collaborate with and support teammates.
Communicate effectively and respectfully with teammates, program coordinator, and management team following outlined communication structure.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Experience working with children and youth (elementary, junior, and/or senior high school students) in a school setting and/or programming capacity.
Public speaking and facilitation skills.
Experience or willingness to learn Google workspace including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Meet, Google Docs, Google Sheets and other apps.
Self-motivated, ability to adapt, work independently, and as part of a team.
Attention to detail with a strong ability to take initiative, manage time, prioritize, organize, and plan.
Experience considered an asset for this position:
French language skills (written &/or spoken)
Delivering youth programs with an environmental focus
Working with Mi’kmaw communities
Knowledge of energy issues and energy efficiency
Experience working in a cross-cultural and diverse environment
Knowledge of the Nova Scotia school system and/or curriculum outcomes and lesson plan development
Expertise in environmental science
