Full-time, Fixed term contract
Entry Level, Term position: Green Schools Nova Scotia Bilingual Engagement Officer

Salary: $18.25/hr up to 35 hours per week for 36 weeks

Do you want to work in an exciting environment delivering energy efficiency education to students around Nova Scotia? Thinkwell Shift is looking for a bilingual Engagement Officer located in the Halifax region. The successful candidate will be fluent in both French and English, work well independently and as part of a team. Travel is required for this position. The successful candidate will deliver presentations on behalf of Efficiency Nova Scotia both in-person and virtually in classrooms throughout Nova Scotia. The goal is to empower students to make small changes to reduce energy use in their homes and schools. Valuable skills include enthusiasm for the environment, comfort with public speaking, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Requirements for this position:

  • A valid Nova Scotia driver’s license and a reliable vehicle
  • A clean criminal record check, including a vulnerable sector check
  • Strong spoken, written, and listening communication skills in French and English
  • Travel to schools within your designated focus area
  • Ability to lift and carry 30lbs and stand for long periods
  • This is a term position ending in June with a possible opportunity to extend into the next school year for the right candidate.

About Green Schools Nova Scotia

Green Schools is a program of Efficiency Nova Scotia which is managed by Thinkwell Shift. This program meets with students across Nova Scotia in grades primary through 12 to develop their understanding of energy efficiency and the impact of energy use on our natural environment. Through fun, hands-on presentations, students learn about climate change, energy-efficient products, and programs available through Efficiency NS and are introduced to the growing career opportunities in the green sector here in Nova Scotia.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Deliver the Green Schools NS energy focused program to French classrooms including Conseil Scolaire Acadien Provincial schools and French Immersion province-wide and other community settings to various ages, including adults at times
  • Prepare, schedule, and deliver pre-made presentations and activities about energy and energy efficiency both in person and virtually, as needed. 
  • Actively engage with and communicate program offerings to schools
  • Use safe driving practices when on the road
  • Follow company standards for personal safety including masking when/if required
  • Participate in meetings and training as required
  • Create and share program stories through social media and website content, including photographs
  • Seize all relevant opportunities to build, support, and create excitement for the program
  • Help conduct surveys and other evaluation methods
  • Maintain accurate work time and expense records and submit receipts in a timely manner.
  • Complete all necessary tracking
  • Maintain company property
  • Collaborate with and support teammates 
  • Communicate effectively with program coordinator and management team


KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Strong French and English conversational, written and comprehension skills
  • Experience working with children and youth (elementary, junior, and/or senior high school students) in a school setting and/or programming capacity
  • Public speaking and facilitation skills
  • Experience or willingness to learn Google workspace including Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Meet, Google Docs, Google Sheets and other apps
  • Self-motivated, ability to adapt, work independently, and as part of a team
  • Attention to detail with a strong ability to take initiative, manage time, prioritize, organize, and plan
  • Experience considered an asset for this position:
  • Delivering youth programs with an environmental focus
  • Working with Mi’kmaw communities
  • Knowledge of energy issues and energy efficiency
  • Experience working in a cross-cultural and diverse environment
  • Knowledge of the Nova Scotia school system and/or curriculum outcomes and lesson plan development
  • Expertise in environmental science

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 9 months

Salary: $18.25 per hour
